What You Can't Barter For

 

I looked into my daughter's eyes and saw reflected back,

unconditional love, the likes of which I've never seen.

I kissed her brow, and swept her blond hair from her face,

and knelt beside her, before leaving her for the day.

We looked at each other and hugged once more.

Then I spun on my heels, and coffee mug and briefcase in hand,

I was gone.  But I saw her sweet face in the window watching me.

And my heart was glad and my spirit soared
